What is Drama & Movement Therapy?

What is Drama & Movement therapy?

In my work as a drama and movement therapist I use the Sesame approach.

The term 'Sesame' uses the metaphor likened to the story in Ali Baba and the 40 thieves, 'Open Sesame'  that led to the cave door opening to reveal the treasure within.

Sesame works toward promoting healing and change and its method is non confrontational.       The method is oblique.

Using many creative tools such as stories, play, movement, sound, safe touch, role play as well as drawings. I facilitate participation in a safe environment so that individuals or groups can achieve their full potential.

Sesame encourages the participants to bring their feelings to the session while using tools in a safe  and trusted environment.

The creative tools we might use in a session include, music, sounds, stories, movement and role play. It may also be that a participant wants to be still  - and that is fine too.

Benefits of the sesame approach

People work at their own pace. There is no rush, and are encouraged to express their feelings in a safe and trusting environment and in doing so raise their self esteem, confidence and address personal issues.
